The workshop pack comes with a preparation guide, full script, a DVD containing slides and video content to use during the course and printable student notes.

If desired the Balance Learning interactive course or workbook of the same title can be used as pre-work for this practical course.

The course design is modular and can be given as a full classroom day or you can pick and mix the modules you feel appropriate to create a shorter course.

The simple to use guide can be used by trainers or managers wishing to develop their team.

MODULE 1: WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?

SECTION 1: LEADERSHIP STYLES and WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A LEADER

On successfully completing this session participants will have:

  • Observed the effect of a leader’s style on his or her team.
  • Assessed their preferred leadership style.
  • Identified how awareness of their preferred leadership style can help them as leaders.
  • Advised a case study leader how to move from an overly task or team focused approach to a balanced management approach.
  • Planned the actions they will take to balance their leadership role to motivate and develop the team to achieve individual, team and business goals.
MODULE 2: FACILITATING TEAMWORK

SECTION 1: IMPROVING GROUP DYNAMICS


On successfully completing this session, participants will have:

  • Described their team culture and use this to describe action steps required to develop the team and achieve individual and team goals.
  • Have either practised or observed the application of facilitation skills in moving a group towards achieving its goals.
  • Captured action points to apply back with their work teams.

SECTION 2: DEVELOPING TEAM TRUST

If all the activities are covered in this session, participants will have:

  • Described the action steps required to build and develop trust and rapport with their team members.
  • Described the action steps required to build and develop trust and rapport between individual team members.

SECTION 3: SETTING GUIDELINES FOR PERFORMANCE


On successfully completing this session participants will have:

  • Described at least two ground rules that need attention within their team.
  • Described the action steps required to review and correct these rules to help their team run more smoothly.

SECTION 4: ESTABLISHING CLEAR PURPOSE AND GOALS


On successfully completing this session, participants will have:

  • Revisited the benefits of having goals in a team situation.
  • Reviewed a case study purpose and goals against the criteria in the pre-work including SMART.
  • Reviewed or developed their team purpose in the context of the organisation.
  • Reviewed or developed their team goals in the context of the organisation.

SECTION 5: STAGES OF TEAM GROWTH

 
On successfully completing this session participants will have:

  • Confirmed their team’s stage of growth.
  • Identified specific examples of necessary business they need to achieve.
  • Identified what actions they can take to successfully affect the necessary business.
