Coaching for Performance Workshop

For trainers looking for an effective and practical GROW based coaching course.
The workshop pack comes with a preparation guide, full script, a DVD containing slides and video content to use during the course and printable student notes.
If desired the Balance Learning interactive course or workbook of the same title can be used as pre-work for this practical course.
The course design is modular and can be given as a full classroom day or you can pick and mix the modules you feel appropriate to create a shorter course.
The simple to use guide can be used by trainers or managers wishing to develop their team.
Module 1: creating a plan
Section 1: What’s in it For Me? (55 minutes)
On successfully completing this session participants will have:
- Developed a clear picture of what they hope to achieve through coaching.
- Become excited by the possibilities of coaching.
- Identified any barriers to coaching and thought about how to overcome them.
Section 2: Creating a Plan (60 minutes)
On successfully completing this session participants will:
- Have used the Hamburger Model to plan their first coaching project.
- Have refined and tested their plan on their colleagues.
- Be keen to put the plan into practice.
- Have practised coaching each other and observed coaching behaviours.
Module 2: Coaching in Practice
Section 1: Your Coaching Skills (55 minutes)
On successfully completing this session participants will have:
- Role played a case study situation and experimented with push and pull, coach and learner centred techniques.
- Role played a training scenario.
- Assessed their current skills and noted those on which they want to focus during the day.
Section 2: Getting Started (108 minutes)
On successfully completing this session participants will have:
- Analysed the use of two key elements of GROW in the video case study.
- Seen good and bad practices of key GROW elements.
- Practiced framing constructive and specific feedback using the video case study. Developed a set of key questions for each element of the GROW process.
- Role played two key elements of the GROW process for their own project and learner.
- Role played two key elements of the GROW process as someone else’s learner.
- Observed a coach and learner in two key elements of the GROW process.
Section 3: Maintaining Momentum (45 minutes)
On successfully completing this session participants will have:
- Identified what could go wrong as a coaching project progresses.
- Identified what root causes to look for when things do go wrong.
- Identified some techniques for dealing with difficulties.
- Practised analysing what to do in specific coaching situations using the video case study.
- Role played an ‘I’m not good at this’ situation.
Section 4: Reviewing Success (40 minutes)
On successfully completing this session participants will have:
- Planned how they will review their own success at the end of their first coaching project.
- Committed to continue to develop as a coach.
